- A Consultative Discussion on State Policy on Older Persons of Ladakh with the theme, ‘Working Towards an Age Friendly Ladakh’ was held recently, presided over by Chief Guest, Adv. Tashi Gyalson Chairman/CEC, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh. The meet took place at helpageindia's unique senior citizens’ home in #shey village in #leh. The formation of a State Policy is critical to address the varied needs of the elderly of #ladakh and form a larger part of the work HelpAge has been doing in Leh-Ladakh for the past 14 years, in areas of healthcare & agecare for the elderly. In his address Adv. Tashi Gyalson, highlighted the importance for a policy for the elderly of Ladakh and assured the full support of LAHDC, Leh, and underscored the upcoming schemes by the Council towards providing for the elderly. The consultative discussion began with an inaugural address by the Guest of Honour, Ms. padmaangmo, Commissioner Secretary, Social and Tribal Welfare, UT Ladakh. Various other stakeholders, experts and community representatives, shared their views. These included Ms. Tashi Dolma, Director, Social and Tribal Welfare, UT Ladakh. Mr. Chewang Phuntsog, (IAS), Former Chief Secretary, J&K, and Mr. Stanzin Chosfail, Councillor, Thiksey. The draft formulation discussion included field level experiences and suggestions by community representatives and data & research insights on elderly issues by Dr. Jigmat Deachen, HOD, Department of Social Work, Ladakh University. Additionally, Director MIMC, Leh, Venerable Bhikkhu Sanghasena and Mr. Tsewang Dorjey, President, PAGIR, presented their inputs on catalytic role of local civil societies in eldercare.
